TRAPPED in the midst of communal violence, a mother and daughter resort to a unique method of survival when predators come looking for loot – and for prey.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT:

The history of the Gujarat Riots of 2002 is often depicted as a conflagration of religious tensions between Hindus and Muslims. While the carnage unleashed against the minority in Gujarat was tragic and ghastly in nature, lost in this history is the specific way in which systematic sexual violence was used against young girls and women – irrespective of religion. There is record of hundreds of women of both communities who fell victim to rape and sexual torture. Misogyny knows no religion. In the two decades since, this history is being changed, manipulated and forgotten. GUDGUDI is a reminder for the generations to come about the full scope of what transpired. It is also about survival and ultimately, hope – for only through bearing true witness can there be any chance for redemption.
